Rayehe Mozafarian is a researcher, documentary filmmaker, sociologist, and women's and children's rights activist who works in the field of social harm and breaking taboos in Iranian society. She has worked to raise public awareness of female genital mutilation (FGM), child marriage and other socially taboo topics. She has written books on FGM in Iran and has produced two documentaries on the subject. She is also working to help improve public knowledge about FGM in Iran and has started a campaign. Her effective efforts include running several rural workshops about FGM, which led to the release of a fatwa from Iranian Sunni authorities against this practice.
