Annie Samuel

Annie Tracy Samuel is a research fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, a Ph.D. candidate in history at Tel Aviv University (TAU), and a junior research fellow at the Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African History and at the Center for Iranian Studies, both at TAU. Her doctoral dissertation examines the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps and the Iran-Iraq War and analyzes how the Guards have documented the war and their roles in the conflict. Her research interests include Iranian security and foreign policy, civil-military relations, the role of Islam in military and foreign policy, and US policy in the Middle East. She has published several articles on those subjects and has presented her work at a number of universities and conferences. Annie earned an M.A., magna cum laude, in Middle Eastern history from TAU in 2008 and a B.A. in history and political science from Columbia University in 2006. Her undergraduate and master's theses explored US policy in the Middle East after World War I. She has working proficiency in Farsi and Hebrew.
